My son is born in 8 months (pre term) He has cleft lips and a hole in the palate. He will get discharge from NICU in 2 days. How long shall I wait before his cleft surgery and whom shall I consult for operation? Shall I go for plastic surgery or only stitches will be fine. Will surgery in Surat or Mumbai will be better.

It will be great for the kid if you can start on Naso alveolar moulding(NAM). We are routinely doing it at our centre. It should start ideally at 2/3 weeks of age. First operation for lip repair is usually between 3-6 months of age.
Next Steps
Consult a cleft lip and palate surgeon for the protocol
Hi, you need to consult an oral surgeon along with your pediatrician. Apart from the treatment to fix the clefts, they will also guide you on feeding your baby which is the most crucial part at this stage. They will give you a proper protocol for the surgery after assessing your baby's requirement.
