Clefts are formed as defect during pregnancy and reasons widely range from genetics to some local or habitual factors of mother. Visit an orthodontist for much clarification.

It is from multiple genes snd also other factors. So not necessary child should get it. But if it is part of a syndrome it may pass on. There are genetic tests available which may reveal if child may have cleft. Mostly revealed in prenatal scans
