What are the causes of cleft palate
My 5 months baby girl has got cleft palate. How did she get it, I mean what are the causes of cleft palate? Is there any genetic cause to it? In pregnancy I was taking multivitamins , could they be a cause for cleft palate? Can it be related to hereditary also?

There are many causes of cleft lip and palate. Problems with genes passed down from 1 or both parents, drugs, viruses, or other toxins can all cause these birth defects. Cleft lip and palate may occur along with other syndromes or birth defects.
