Chicken Pox extension for 70 year old
Hello, my mother who is 70 had some rashes on her left hand and on her back. The doctor told it was chicken pox which appears back in old age. My mother was experiencing heavy pain in her left hand. After receiving treatment the rashes are disappearing however the pain is still there. The pain is so heavy that she cannot sleep at night. Pain killers are not making any effect. Please advise how to tackle this situation as I can't see my mother suffer in pain. Are there any home remedies? What kind of specialist should I consult?
My mother is diabetic on insulin.

It could be herpetic neuralgia ..it'll be there for 3 months ..give her gabapentin 100mg 0-0-1 x 1 month to see how she responds ..connect for more details

Perhaps your doctor may have meant herpes simplex rashes which are quite painful .You can consult an internist as she may need additional medicines for pain control.
