Hello Dr. I have been having a sudden choking sensation in my chest for the past few days and it feels like I am unable to breathe. For this reason I got an ECG done and everything came out normal. The cough is dry and there is a lot of acidity but suddenly for some time it feels like I am unable to breathe. Why has this happened, Dr. My blood pressure is also 130/80 and my oxygen level is 98/99.

Hello there, chocking sensation and feeling of breathlessness can be mostly due to hyper acidity or esophagitis in your case. It will be treated with medication and some dietary and lifestyle changes.
Do consult Online for better treatment and don't worry you'll be fine soon with medicines.
Since ecg you said is normal, it could be acid reflux or esophagitis. However you should take an ecg during rhe episodes of pain to see if there are any intermittent variations. This needs more workup and history. Please consult on practo
Symptoms suggest acidity related chest discomfort or reflux with possible anxiety episodes. Normal ECG and oxygen levels make cardiac cause unlikely. Sudden choking feeling with dryness and acidity points more towards GERD with panic like episodes
Next Steps
-Start pantoprazole 40 mg twice a day before breakfast for 10 days
-Avoid late meals and spicy oily food
-No need for cardiac tests further if ECG normal and no risk factors
Health Tips
-Avoid lying down immediately after food
-Eat small frequent meals
-Reduce stress and anxiety triggers
-Practice slow breathing during episodes

It is reassuring that your ECG, blood pressure, and oxygen levels are normal, the combination of a sudden choking sensation, dry cough, and acidity suggests that your symptoms may be linked with severe acid reflux
Next Steps

Health Tips
Even with a normal ECG, you should go to the emergency room if you have Pain that spreads to your arms, jaw, or back. Dizziness, fainting, or cold sweats. Severe difficulty speaking or a blue tint to your lips

Based on your symptoms—sudden choking sensation, difficulty breathing episodes, dry cough, and associated acidity—with a normal ECG, stable BP (130/80), and good oxygen levels (98–99), the cause is less likely to be cardiac and more likely related to:
Gastroesophageal Reflux (Acidity/GERD) – Acid reflux can cause chest tightness, choking sensation, and dry cough.
Anxiety or Panic Episodes – Sudden feeling of not being able to breathe with normal vitals is commonly seen.
Bronchospasm / Mild Airway Irritation – Especially if symptoms worsen at night or after triggers.
What you can do:
Avoid spicy, oily, and late-night meals
Do not lie down immediately after eating
Try steam inhalation
Practice slow deep breathing during episodes
Reduce caffeine and stress triggers
Medications (after consultation):
Antacid / PPI (like Pantoprazole)
If needed, mild anti-anxiety or bronchodilator support
When to seek urgent care:
Persistent chest pain
Radiation to arm/jaw
Severe breathlessness not settling
Sweating or dizziness
Next Steps
If symptoms persist, I recommend a consultation with a physician for evaluation of GERD and anxiety, and possibly a chest examination or spirometry if needed.
It could be because of hyper acidity. Try to avoid all the maida, oily, fried and spicy food in your diet, Include lot of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. Avoid non veg in your food .
We have very good treatment for this problem along with lifestyle management but for treatment we need a detailed history so it would be best if you come for consultation
Hello,
As your ECG, BP, and oxygen are normal, this is more likely due to acidity/GERD causing reflux-related chest tightness, choking sensation, and dry cough rather than a heart issue. These symptoms often worsen after meals or while lying down.
Please take Pantoprazole before breakfast for 2 weeks, avoid spicy/oily food, tea/coffee, and late-night meals, and do not lie down immediately after eating.
If symptoms become severe, frequent, or are associated with sweating, left arm pain, or persistent breathlessness, please get reviewed urgently.
