Caught with sputum color red

Asked for Male, 26 Years

I have cough with sputum and color of sputum is red. I checked with doctor did all the testing and nothing found just infection and knimonia. Yesterday sputum color was not red I m under treatment but today it is coming red again.

Hello ! I can understand your concern. Blood mixed sputum definitely needs attention. It does happen when you have infection in your lungs which is called pneumonia. However , it is essential to find out what organism has caused the pneumonia and treat it with the right choice of antibiotic , to have your symptoms under control .

Next Steps

Get your sputum (phlegm) tested for gram stain and culture sensitivity and Acid Fast Bacilli. These tests stand as a guide as to what organism has caused your Infection and what antibiotic will work against it and cure your Infection. Also get a complete blood count test done.
