Can teens do a full body test
Son aged 16 wants to join a gym. Before doing intense workouts is it advisable to do a full body test. He is generally super fit (courtesy using simple equipments in home gym) and is an active footballer. Can teens undergo the usual full body checkup?

For a healthy 16-year-old, a routine “full-body” package is usually not necessary before joining a gym. A pre-exercise check with history, examination and blood pressure is appropriate; tests are added only if indicated. Ask specifically about exertional chest pain, fainting, palpitations, unusual breathlessness and any family history of sudden cardiac death. If present, avoid intense workouts until evaluated. Start gradually with proper supervision and technique. You can book a Practo consultation with me for a sports-readiness assessment.
