Can breast pump decrease milk supply
Hi doctor, Does breast pump decrease milk supply. I feed all the day and pump in the night. Thanks for your response.

Dear parents, Breast pumps decreases the milk production as normal' phenomenon of let down' reflex is not followed As Baby sucks nipple a stimuli goes to pituitary glands and 2 harmones are released one is prolactin which increases the milk production as per demand and other is oxytocin which let the milk release from the alveoli . When this is not followed milk production decreases

Pumping increases the milk supply by emptying the breast. The body produces milk when the breast is empty of milk. So pumping helps in increasing milk supply
