Calcium test??
Is a blood test a reliable indicator of calcium levels and bone health in the bod? As per my physiotherapist, blood test is not a reliable indicator as the body extracts calcium from the bones to keep levels in blood adequate. I am 48 yrs & having leg bone pains... Want to start a calcium supplement as I think my calcium intake is not sufficient. Pls advise.. Thanks.

Get your dexa scan for bone density.. Usually dexa scans are normal before 55 years of age. These are advised after that to check for porosity of bones. Treatment of weak bones can be monitored according to vit d 3 levels..As low levels can lead to improper absorption of calcium from your food. Only calcium supplements won't help make your bones strong..For that you wil also have to load your bones with physiological stress in form of exercise

To assess bone health in general, Serum Calcium and Vitamin D levels are commonly assessed, especially in young male population. It gives indirect evidence of bone health. However, for bone strength, DEXA scan is usually preferred. But, it is not generally advised in young male persons.
Next Steps
For an accurate diagnosis, a detailed assessment with clinical examination and proper history followed by appropriate investigations is needed.

For the treatment or medicines, visit nearest orthopedic surgeon or consult me online.
