You're right to pay attention to black stains on your molars, especially when they appear on both sides. While there’s no pain now, it’s important to understand what these stains could mean. ✅ Possible causes: External stains from food, tea, coffee, or bacteria Deep grooves that trap stains but are not decayed Early dental caries (decay) — often painless in the beginning Tartar buildup if oral hygiene isn’t reaching those areas effectively 🦷 Why a dentist may recommend filling or restoration: Sometimes, what looks like a simple stain on the surface may actually be incipient decay starting in the grooves. Restoring such early caries with a small tooth-colored filling or pit and fissure sealant is a preventive step — to avoid deeper damage and pain later.
Next Steps
🔹 Get an intraoral X-ray (RVG) to confirm if it’s decay 🔹 If it’s just staining or shallow grooves, cleaning or polishing may be enough 🔹 If early decay is confirmed, a simple, painless filling is recommended
Health Tips
Avoid sticky/sugary snacks between meals Use a soft brush with fluoridated toothpaste Consider dental sealants if your molars have deep grooves Get a dental checkup every 6 months You’re doing the right thing by staying alert. Early treatment = less trouble later.

They might be early caries, hence no pain. It would be better to go for restoration which would protect the teeth for further damage due to caries.

Black stains on molars could be due to either external factors like chromogenic bacteria, dietary habits, or internal issues like early caries. Since there is no pain, it may be a superficial stain or an initial carious lesion. A clinical examination and intraoral X-ray are essential to confirm the exact nature. If it's superficial, a simple cleaning (oral prophylaxis) might be enough. If there's slight enamel damage, a preventive filling (sealant/composite) may be suggested .
Next Steps
Visit a dentist for clinical evaluation and X-ray. Based on findings, they may recommend professional cleaning, sealant, or a small filling if decay is present.
Health Tips
Avoid delaying treatment as early caries can progress silently. Maintain good oral hygiene and avoid sticky, sugary foods. Regular dental checkups every 6 months are advised.

Hi! If there is a black stain, it could be caries. Please get an IOPA X-ray done first, and then get a restoration if needed.
