The profound physical symptoms you experienced—including the widespread numbness, breathlessness, chest discomfort, and a transient blood pressure spike of 130/90 to 150/90 mmHg—point to an Acute Panic Attack or Severe Somatic Anxiety Flare-up, which is deeply intertwined with your Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). The gut and the brain are directly linked via the nervous system. When severe gut bloating or spasms occur, they can trigger an intense adrenaline surge. This causes you to unconsciously breathe rapidly or shallowly (hyperventilate), which shifts your blood chemistry and directly causes the terrifying numbness in your body and legs. The 'stuck' sensation in your throat is a classic stress response known as Globus Pharyngeus. The fact that Petril (a calming nerve medication) quickly normalized your body proves that your nerves, rather than a permanent heart or structural nerve defect, are the primary drivers of this episode."

The episode that you have described appears to be a panic/anxiety attack, but before labeling it, certain cardiac and thyroid conditions should be ruled out. The acute episode is treated using anti-anxiety medication like petril. Long-term you need to find triggers for your attacks. Cognitive behavioural therapy helps. As far as IBS is concerned, its symptoms can worsen with such episodes, hence these episodes need to be controlled.
Next Steps
Consult a good physician/cardiologist/gastroenterologist and once organic diseases are ruled out you may need to consult a neuropsychiatrist.

So what you are describing can be a panic attack. Feeling of extreme anxiety, restlessness, breathlessness, chest pain with a feeling that you might die is something that is seen in panic attack. Petril helps with decreasing it but it doesn't really heals the issue. If you have had these attacks frequently or you have any sadness of mood, decreased energy, loss of interest in doing anything that you used to like, decreased sleep, decreased appetite it might be concurrent with depression. Proper evaluation and derailed history is needed. I provide online consultation and therapy support you can contact me directly on nine eight two six five four five six six zero for a detailed evaluation and management plan for the same. Or you can contact me directly through practo as well. Mental health issues can result in ibs also so a holistic approach of treatment would suit you best. Please connect for the same.
