Hello Doctor, I got a minor scratch from a rusty folding iron bed at home. It caused 2–3 drops of blood but was not a deep puncture. My tetanus vaccination history: * 27 Nov 2025 – Tetanus vaccine * 21 Mar 2026 – Tetanus vaccine My childhood tetanus vaccination status is unknown. Do I need another tetanus vaccine for this injury? If my childhood series is considered unknown, can these two doses count toward a primary series, and when should I take the next dose?

No neet for tt dose , if you are recently vaccinated, but take care of wound healing, and if you see excess swelling around the wound area , pus , delayed wound healing and prudent smell at injury site . Please take a consultation from your doctor..

Since you received a tetanus vaccine dose very recently (on March 21, 2026), your antibody levels are extremely high and fully adequate to protect you against tetanus for any minor or dirty wound. To complete the standard 3-dose adult primary tetanus series (Td/Tdap), you should schedule your 3rd dose between 6 to 12 months after your 2nd dose—which would be around September 2026 to March 2027. After completing this 3-dose primary series, routine booster doses are only required once every 10 years (or after 5 years in cases of severe/dirty wounds).

With just recent vaccination history , last being less than 6 months, you do not need a tetanus shot. Taken a shot it can easily last for a year. So you are def safe. Always wash your wounds thoroughly under running water.
