Calf strain inspite of stretching and regular running could be due to different reasons. However if you have just started running it will take atleast a week or 2 to stabilize. Keep the time durations short and do icing for at least 3 times wrapped in towel...15 minutes.
Reasons:
- Inadequate arch support...arch collapse.....shoe related
- uneven terrain, uphill etc
- tightness and weakness of muscle in the front of calf
- chronic tightness, which can be all the back muscles tightness hamstrings, calf....
Next Steps
icing regularly. dont push with the run after it starts hurting....there can be deep swelling....
