Constipation for a few days is common in children and is often related to low fibre intake, inadequate water consumption, irregular toilet habits, or withholding stools. At this age, constipation is usually functional and can be improved with dietary correction and routine changes. Foods that help soften stools and promote bowel movement include: Fruits like papaya, ripe banana, pear, apple (with peel) Soaked raisins or soaked figs Vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables Whole grains, oats, and fibre-rich foods Adequate warm water intake
Next Steps
Encourage the child to drink enough water throughout the day. Include fibre-rich fruits and vegetables daily. Establish a fixed toilet routine, preferably in the morning after breakfast, without forcing. If constipation does not improve in a few days, consult a doctor for further evaluation.
Health Tips
Avoid excessive intake of junk food, bakery items, cheese, and processed foods. Do not give laxatives or home remedies without medical advice. If constipation is associated with severe abdominal pain, vomiting, blood in stools, or weight loss, seek medical attention immediately.

In winter, water intake often reduces & heavy foods are commonly consumed, but due to weak digestion they are not digested properly, leading to harder stools & constipation. Therefore, adequate warm water intake - in small sips throughout the day is essential. The diet should be warm, soft, hydrating. •Give well-cooked foods such as rice with ghee, •cooked vegetables like bottle gourd and pumpkin,  snake gaurd, ridge gaurd, beans. •fruits such as ripe papaya and banana. Soaked raisins (munakka) help naturally soften the stool. •Sabja seeds soaked in water (2 tablespoons) can also be given, as they absorb water and add bulk to the stool, aiding smooth bowel movement. •At night, warm milk with a small amount of ghee supports regular & painless defecation.
Health Tips
(while cold water, dry snacks, and raw foods should be avoided)
