Hello Doctor, I have been experiencing abdominal bloating, especially at night while lying down. I also feel a sensation of tightness/pressure in my abdomen. I often feel like I need to pass gas, but when I try, I am usually unable to release it. Sometimes I stop trying because I am afraid that stool might come out along with the gas.
Could this be due to trapped gas, constipation, IBS, or any other digestive problem? Please advise what could be the possible cause and whether I should take any medicine or follow any specific diet/remedy. Thank you.

In Ayurveda this is Adhmana - due to vitiated Apana Vata & Mandagni. Trapped gas, heaviness at night while lying down and incomplete evacuation are signs of Vata-anulomana vikruti.
Next Steps
General guidance:
Early light dinner by 7:30pm, warm water, avoid maida, chana, cold drinks, late nights.
After food take 1/2 tsp saunf+ajwain or Hingvashtak churna with ghee.
Daily walk, Pawanmuktasana, avoid vegadharana.

The symptoms you describeâabdominal bloating, pressure/tightness, difficulty passing gas and worsening of symptoms at night or while lying downâcan occur with constipation, excessive intestinal gas, IBS or altered bowel motility. Sometimes stool retained in the colon can also make it difficult to pass gas comfortably. The fear of stool passing with gas can further lead to repeated straining and increased abdominal/pelvic tension. From an Ayurvedic perspective, such symptoms may be associated with disturbance of Apana Vata and impaired digestive function, but the exact cause should be assessed from your bowel pattern, diet and lifestyle.
Next Steps
Rather than repeatedly trying to force gas out, focus on regular bowel evacuation and reducing factors that promote gas formation. A personalised assessment can help determine whether the predominant issue is constipation, IBS, dietary intolerance or another functional digestive disturbance, and an appropriate Ayurvedic approach can then be planned accordingly. Health Tips
Take meals at regular times, eat slowly and chew food thoroughly. Reduce carbonated drinks, excessive fried foods, very large meals and foods that you repeatedly notice cause bloating. A short walk after meals can improve intestinal movement, while adequate hydration and a regular toilet routine can help prevent constipation. Avoid lying down immediately after a heavy meal. If you develop severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, progressive abdominal distension, blood in stool, unexplained weight loss, fever or complete inability to pass stool and gas, seek prompt medical evaluation. Thank you
