Worried about radiation
My pulmonologist asked me to get a HRCT Thorax done, however my friends and relatives have scared me out that it will cause cancer due to radiation.
I have recently got 2 xrays, one because of bad exposure in the first xray done at a local xray place.
So had to do another.
I am scared that these many scans will get me cancer :(

Without any doubt go for HRCT , you need 100+ in a month then you are having change of getting cancer That also not sure. Again u r male . Go for it brother just relax.

First get consult from a good physician for your symptoms and the important question is why you need hrct at the first place. What your doctor is suspecting is important before doing th scan. And your relatives are not wrong in worrying about radiation risk. But importantly you must know how it’s going to benefit you. So that your doctor will decide if it’s that important to get hrct scans. No one would advice for hrct scans if they are able to understand your clinical problems with examination and no red flags. You need not be scared of getting cancer due to radiation. In fact there is more radiation exposure in the atmosphere than what you get from HRCT (That may be equal to about 20 X rays).
So please go ahead and get the HRCT done.
