What causes leg ulcers in the elderly

Elderly parent (90) in independent living, bumped leg and now has huge hematoma and has also become delirious, now wants to sleep all the time, not feeding self. nothing has happened in the brain and no UTI. In rehab now - can she recover mentally/physically.
