Amputating leg at thigh level of elderly
My month 82 had her left femur broken. Metal rod was inserted got infected and removed. Now in antibiotics for 2 months she has gradually become too week to even talk. Doctors want to continue antibiotics for another month and then reinsert prosthetic. She may die from weakness by then. Doctors say amputating the leg is more dangerous than reinserting rod. Question: Is it really so bad to amputating a leg at the thigh level from an elderly?

No not very dangerous operation. Although amputation should be planned and done when advantages outweigh disadvantages.
