Very low haemoglobin
Hello , my father has been a depression patient since past 20 yrs & he takes medicine for same..2 weeks ago, he started having tremors in whole body and couldn't digest food and kept vomiting and passing loose stools for few days, passing a black stool in between..the following day, his BP dropped very low in the morning, so we rushed him to the hospital..where in his test reports, we found out that he had ulcer in his stomach which is causing black stool & high lithium in depression medicine caused tremors..the Doctor treated him for the same..now he doesn't have tremors and there is some improvement in his health..he was given blood, then his hb got to 9.8 from 8.7,then again it dropped to 7.7 the next day, when given blood, it again got to 8.7,then it again dropped to 8.2 the next day, & it happened subsequently & now his hb is 7.7..he was given total 4 units of blood in hospital..he got discharged as his hb drops by small value..Is it a worry if hb drops & blood is given frequenty?

Hello i have noted your concern, Here the drop in HB is due to loss of blood, and to stop the loss of blood he needs to undergo investigations like endoscopy/ colonoscopy or CECT abdomen to look for, where the blood is leaking from and then proceed accordingly, for which he also needs hospital care for proper monitoring, treatment and management, as patient loose continuously blood internally he can go into hemorrhagic shock and other complications which can be life threatening.
Next Steps
Kindly admit him in a tertiary care center, a multi speciality hospital, where proper care and treatment can be given.
Health Tips
Watch for black stools or black color or blood stained vomiting, dizziness, low blood pressure, fever and breathing difficulty. Immediately seek medical attention
