Understanding the Diagnosis: ❗ 1. Typhidot test (IgM + IgG positive): IgM → Recent infection IgG → Past exposure or ongoing immune response But: Typhidot alone is NOT 100% reliable. It can remain positive even after the infection has cleared, or give false positives. To confirm typhoid and assess severity, better tests are: Blood culture (most reliable if done early) Widal test (if available with rising titers) CRP, CBC, ESR – to check for inflammation Liver function tests (LFT) – sometimes typhoid affects liver Malaria, dengue, TB screening — to rule out other chronic infections 🚫 Why current treatment may not be enough: Cefixime 250 mg is a low dose for typhoid, especially if resistant strains are involved. Many cases now require higher doses or combination therapy, like: Cefixime + Azithromycin Or IV antibiotics in more severe cases Duration is usually 10–14 days, not just a few days
Next Steps
✅ What You Should Do Now: 1. Get further evaluation — don’t delay Visit a physician or infectious disease specialist and ask for: CBC with differential Blood culture ESR, CRP Liver function tests Repeat Widal or other typhoid confirmation Screen for TB, dengue, typhus, brucellosis if needed 2. Review or change antibiotics You may need a stronger or longer course, such as: Cefixime 400 mg twice daily Or Ceftriaxone injections if oral not effective Add Azithromycin if needed (some resistant strains respond well) Don’t self-medicate — only switch under doctor guidance. 3. Supportive care for fatigue ORS, electrolyte water, easy-to-digest food B-complex, Vitamin D, iron levels if not already checked Proper sleep and rest (very important in recovery)
Health Tips
💬 Final Note This doesn’t seem like a regular viral fever. With persistent symptoms and no relief in 2+ weeks, please consult a physician immediately for proper re-evaluation. A timely adjustment in diagnosis and treatment will get you back to your studies and strength.
