Hi, If a type 1 diabetic is regular with treatment and also follows a good diet and exercise plan he/she can have a life expectancy close to that of a person without the disease Usually, the disease is picked up later after kidney damage sets in. That reduces life expectancy The disease is not sexually transmitted. However, children born to parents with type 1 DM can have a slightly higher risk of the disease as it is AUTOIMMUNE
