Hi. Usually, after tooth extraction, the main source of infection is removed (which is in fact the tooth itself in most cases). After extraction is done, the extraction socket is curettaged (cleaned) to remove granulation tissue. Whatever infection remains (which is minor) is taken care of by the antibiotics prescribed to you. So, rest assured, the gums will heal normally.
