The soft swelling near the upper tooth may be due to an infection arising from the tooth or gum, sometimes forming a small pus-filled swelling (dental abscess). The fact that there was pain initially and now there is a soft swelling makes it important to have it examined.
Next Steps
Please see a dentist as soon as possible for a clinical examination and dental X-ray. The dentist will check whether the tooth has decay, infection or a gum-related problem and then decide whether treatment such as root canal treatment, drainage, or extraction is required.
Health Tips
* Please do not press, squeeze or puncture the swelling yourself. * Keep the area clean and continue gentle brushing. * Don’t delay treatment even if the swelling is not very painful, as a dental abscess usually does not resolve on its own. * If you develop fever, rapidly increasing swelling, swelling around the eye/face, or difficulty swallowing or breathing, seek emergency medical care immediately.
