My father went for a tooth extraction today as the tooth was infected and he's now shivering badly. Is this normal?

Hello Mam, Normally after extraction antibiotics and pain medication are prescribed and should be taken which would alleviate these symptom, if you're not taking these medications I would advise you to visit your dentist and get your medication. If you're already taking these medication and still having these problems  i would advise you to visit your physician.

Please check the medication he is taking and consult the doctor who has prescribed it. Sometimes it could be an allergic reaction to the medication

Have you started the Antibiotics for him? Was the teeth infected? Check if fever is coming. Inform your dentist.

You are 52 and I am assuming your father must be atleast 70+ and I am sure the shivering and fever subsided by now. Normally antibiotics are not required after extractions. Mild shivering is due to old age and less immunity. If he has no other medical issues I’m sure it has resolved already.
Next Steps
It’s 3 days already and if there’s still some fever or anything it’s time to check him with the dentist. Sometimes it’s a coincidence that he got the sore throat or viral fever at the time the tooth was removed and we associate the two. If it’s resolved we can just ignore and give him nutritious food in the way he likes.

Sometimes it does happen if the infection was more. Do not worry, just give him some anti biotics and some antipyretic. Paracetamol 500mg every 5-6 hours for 2-3 days. Hope it helps Cheers
