From the given details I understand that just a single tooth has been treated and crowned. If then, gaps at the sides of the crown probably would have risen due to any cavities in the adjacent teeth to the crowned tooth. Or it could be just some tartar present between the crowned tooth and adjacent teeth. If regular dental cleaning hasn't been done recently please go for it and thereby any decay or cavities could be identified. If its multiple crowned teeth or a bridge the scenario is different.
Next Steps
Visit a dentist and get it checked at the earliest because if there are any cavities better don't delay.
Health Tips
Kindly use any mouth washes to rinse the area off any food remnants to prevent gingivitis.
