Tooth Cap fell off after 2 years.
My tooth cap fell off after 2 years. Had a RCT in 2016 after which this tooth cap was put in. After consulation doctors have told me that the structure of the tooth is not enough to supoort the cap. Doc 1has advised to go either fo for a Bridge or an Implant. While Doc 2 has advised me to use a Post to hold the cap in place. Doc 2 did apply cement and put it back but it has fallen again in about 12 hours while i was brushing my teeth. Doc 2 also told me that my gums have grown around the existing tooth structure which might make it difficult for the cap to hold the position. What should i do? Would love your advise on the same, sir.

The crown may have fell off due to the use of chewing gum or due to sticky foods.Your tooth did hold the crown for 2 years and just didn't come off early within a month or so suggests of two things, either the preparation of tooth does not conform to retentive and resistance forms of tooth preparation or the tooth structure is insufficient to hold a crown. Now that your case has been complicated i suggest you refer to a specialist. In Case you have sufficient crown height and the tooth preparation is inadequate, few changes in the preparation by maintaining parallel walls and addition of a groove will hold the crown for long.In the situation if you don't have adequate crown height the tooth crown height can be increased by crown lengthening procedures or by placement of post and core,I would personally not suggest extraction of tooth if there is no periapical pathology or if RCT achieved a good apical seal.
Next Steps
Refer to a prosthodontist.
Health Tips
Avoid sticky foods and chewing gum after placement of crown. The crowns can withstand good compressive forces but have poor tensile strength.

Hi , post and core will not serve you for long . If you want a long term solution , go for a bridge or implant . To place an implant , the tooth has to be extracted . For a bridge the existing tooth need not be extracted . New caps can be made by adding one or two caps on adjacent teeth. U can escape the trauma of tooth extraction and surgery.
Next Steps
try a bridge

Hello, Seems you have many different option and in confusion. Whatever options you have recieved from your dentists are both genuine. One doc has given you long term solution whole as the other has given you economical solution. Now depending on your personal comfort and choice you have to go ahead with the treatment planning. Yes crown lengthening is a procedure where the gums can be trimmed to lengthen the tooth however its application depends from case to case. Post and core also does help, again it might or might not serve you for a long term depending on the condition of your tooth. If you're looking for a more hassle free long term option you can plan either for bridge or implant

Depending on the cost factor you can choose between an implant or a bridge. It is your choice. Implant does not affect the other teeth so if you can afford it then opt for implant
