There are several potential reasons for redness or peeling of the skin under the tongue, including: Irritation: Certain foods or beverages, such as hot coffee, can cause temporary irritation or burns to the delicate tissues in the mouth, including under the tongue. Trauma or Injury: Accidental bites or injuries to the area under the tongue can lead to redness and peeling. Oral Thrush: A fungal infection called oral thrush can cause white patches or redness in the mouth and under the tongue. Mucous Cyst: A painless, fluid-filled sac called a mucous cyst can sometimes develop under the tongue and cause redness. Oral Lichen Planus: This chronic inflammatory condition can cause red or white patches inside the mouth, including under the tongue. Leukoplakia: Leukoplakia is a condition where white or red patches develop inside the mouth, often in response to chronic irritation. Since the area has not healed and is still red after two years, it's crucial to have it checked by a professional. They can perform a visual examination, possibly take a biopsy if necessary, and determine the appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan. While it's natural to want to know the cause of the issue, only a healthcare professional can provide an accurate diagnosis and personalized advice based on a proper evaluation of your specific condition. I strongly encourage you to schedule a visit with a dentist or oral surgeon to address your concerns and ensure appropriate care. Early detection and proper management can be critical for maintaining good oral health.
