A TSH of 7.15 means your thyroid is still under-treated. Since you’ve been on 50 mcg for several years and your GP has advised 62.5 mcg, that step-up is reasonable. Dose adjustments in hypothyroidism are usually done gradually (12.5–25 mcg at a time), especially at your age.
Next Steps
Increase to 62.5 mcg daily as prescribed, then repeat TSH after 6–8 weeks to see if it comes into target range. Also check Free T4 (± TPO antibodies) if not already done. Take Thyronorm early morning on an empty stomach and avoid food/tea/coffee for 30–45 minutes.
Health Tips
Weight gain can happen when TSH stays high, but diet, activity, and age also matter. Don’t change doses frequently on your own — always recheck labs before further increases. If TSH remains high after 62.5 mcg, your doctor may move to 75 mcg based on results. If you’d like, I can help interpret the follow-up report once it’s done.

A TSH of 7.159 indicates under-treated hypothyroidism. Since you have been on Thyronorm 50 mcg for 3–4 years and TSH is now elevated, a dose adjustment is appropriate. Increasing the dose to 62.5 mcg is a reasonable and standard next step, especially considering your weight gain (64 → 76 kg) and persistent elevation of TSH. However, thyroid dosing should be gradual. Jumping directly to higher doses without monitoring is not advised, but 50 → 62.5 mcg is a safe and conservative increase.
Next Steps
• You may take Thyronorm 62.5 mcg once daily (as advised by your GP) • Take it on an empty stomach with water, same time every day • Repeat TSH after 6–8 weeks (not earlier) • Target TSH is usually between 1–3 mIU/L for symptom control • If TSH remains high, further adjustment can be done stepwise Do not alternate doses daily unless specifically instructed.
Health Tips
• Avoid tea/coffee for at least 45–60 minutes after Thyronorm • Avoid calcium, iron, antacids, or multivitamins for 4 hours • Weight gain in hypothyroidism improves gradually after TSH normalizes • Do not focus on frequent testing—consistency matters more I understand how frustrating weight gain and changing reports can be when you’ve been compliant with medication for years. You’re doing the right thing by questioning and adjusting thoughtfully. With a small dose correction and proper follow-up, this is very manageable. If you’d like, an online consultation can help fine-tune your dose and address weight concerns in a structured, reassuring way.
