Most important thing to do before going for extraction is having full meal. Antibiotics if required will be prescribed by d dentist. Self medication is not good. You have to consider the possibility that the tooth can be saved from extraction also, by procedures such root canal treatment. Plz discuss with your dentist all the possibilities before going for the extraction.

Hello. Many thanks for your question. A routine extraction in a medically fit person does not require any pre preparation with antibiotics. Please do not self prescribe antibiotics as injudicious use increase resistance at a time when you might actually need it, in the future.
Next Steps
All I would advise is, have a good meal before you go for your extraction as you might find it difficult to eat in the first few hours after an extraction. Hope that helps. All the best!
Health Tips
Any medications necessary pre or post extraction will be prescribed by your dentist. Please do not self medicate.

The first question that I am professionally obligated to ask is whether it is your decision to get a tooth extracted at this age or is the tooth beyond repair in cannot be saved???? Because with the modern equipments and materials we can build up even the most damaged teeth, and there is no doubt about the fact that saving natural tooth is far better than removing it and replacing it with even the best modality of replacement. And as regards your question about the preparations to be done the day before the procedure, it is the best judgement of the dentist who has evaluated the case clinically whether you need any antibiotic coverage or not depending upon the symptoms. And it is not about the antibiotics that you need to "try", it is about the antibiotics that are prescribed according to the clinical situations that demand their use. Premedication is usually not required when we have to do a procedure under local anaesthesia, unlike we do for procedures done under general anaesthesia. Regards.
