Black layer on teeth has 2- 3 reasons but swelling in gums is mainly due to infection,so plz visit ur dentist and get the intraoral x-ray done.

It seems you have deposits called as calculus On The Teeth which cannot be removed by tooth brushing and will require a session of teeth cleaning by a procedure called as scaling. This will make your teeth look better and more importantly improve gum health drastically. Regards.
