Stapedectomy
I have been diagnosed with otosclerosis and my doctor is suggesting for stapedectomy. Can it be cured by medicines? How dangerous is this stapedectomy? If I get back my hearing, will it last permanently?

For otosclerosis there is no medicine which can reverse the effects, there is some medicines which can slow or somehow arrest the progression of the disease. Only effective treatment is surgery ie stapedotomy which if done in good hands gives very good and long lasting results

Correct surgery. No medical treatment. Hearing aid is a option. How dangerous? Depends how experienced the surgeon is . Once a good result it will be long term.

Hi , There are no medicines for otosclerosis, usually it is a very straight forward operation and results in good hearing in 90% of people, very occasionally hearing may not improve or worsen

Yes surgery is the best option for otosclerosis. Like all surgeries there a few risks/complications of stapedectomy. But once surgery is done successfully, the hearing improvement lasts permanently unless a new problem has developed. If you don’t undergo surgery at appropriate time, disease can progress further slowly and thereafter surgery will not help.

You have been advised correctly. Surgery is the only treatment. Pretty straightforward surgery for an experienced surgeon. Mostly done under Local anesthesia .Hearing should improve.
