Sprain near ankle
My husband got his foot sprained and it has been over 25 days. Took painkiller to subside pain and swelling as directed by orthopaedic doctor. Still he is unable to walk properly. What should he do for speedy recovery. The doctor advised him to use ice pack on the area for few days and then followed by hot water after few days. What should he do? Attached is the x-ray.

He should consult a physiotherapist for complete assessment and treatment. Ligament sprain should be treated with electro therapy modalities followed by exercises.

As per X-ray everything seems to be almost normal.
Next Steps
Ask your husband to :- 1. Perform Ankle Pumps exercises while stright lying on bed/mat. 2. Flexion-Extension of fingers of affected foot. 3. Keep foot elevated for atleast 1/2 an hour in night time before sleep. 4. Apply compression bandage while standing or walking only.
Health Tips
Most important precaution for few days atleast your husband has to follow is:- To avoid weight bearing on the affected foot. Atleast reduce weight bearing for few days till sweeping is reduced/cleared. Also avoid hanging of foot while sitting.

Hello mam , ankle range of motion exercises (dorsiflexion, plantarflexion, inversion and eversion) Calf stretch , toe movements and  calf press/ squeeze with mild pressure will help in mobility of the joint. If there is any swelling use cold packs along with hot pack alternatively.
Health Tips

Please ask your husband to visit a physiotherapist. In an ankle sprain once a fracture us ruled out, the ligaments need to be strengthened and retrained. Exercises need to be tailor made to the side of the ligament injured. And this needs to be assessed. Also based on the grade of injury the recovery could take time.

Consult a Physiotherapist. That will help him reduce his pain, gain back his ankle mobility and eventually with their help he would be able to walk properly again.
Health Tips
Make sure you undergo Physiotherapy because after a sprain there are chances that the ankle muscles might remain weak even after the pain goes away.
