Sleep troubles and psoriasis often interact, as both are influenced by stress and inflammation. There is always a possibility of Psoriasis (being an autoimmune condition) inviting psychiatric comorbidities along its course. To improve sleep, it’s essential to maintain good sleep hygiene, including a consistent sleep schedule, a screen-free wind-down routine, and a sleep-friendly environment. Stress management through relaxation techniques like mindfulness or deep breathing can help, alongside regular, moderate exercise earlier in the day (avoid excessive physical activity in evening hours). Dietary adjustments, such as avoiding heavy meals, caffeine, and alcohol before bed while incorporating anti-inflammatory foods, may also benefit both conditions.
Next Steps
Short-term use of sleep medications may be considered under medical guidance. Screen yourself for anxiety or depression which are commonly observed comorbid with psoriasis which can worsen sleep issues, treat yourself if there is any underlying psychiatric condition.
Health Tips
If psoriasis treatment such as corticosteroids and phototherapy can disrupt normal circadian rhythm thus interfering with sleep, discuss potential adjustments with your dermatologist.

There is a bidirectional relationship between some skin conditions like Psoriasis and mental health issues like anxiety/depression. Sometimes both go hand in hand and require treatment for both. Consult a good psychiatrist.

Autoimmune conditions such as psoriasis may often be accompanied by psychiatric symptoms which go unevaluated. You can see a psychiatrist for proper evaluation and management of your issues. Meanwhile, you can practice sleep hygiene, JPMR, deep breathing exercises. Set a sleep schedule, avoid daytime naps, get some physical activity everyday, avoid caffeine and nicotine after 6pm, reduce water intake around bedtime, use bed only for sleep, keep bedroom dimly lit, with minimal noise.
