Side effect of anxiety- SSRI medicine
My brother is suffering from the after effect of SSRI medicine Fluoxetine. In 2023 july he consulted a doctor coz he felt a bit anxiety as he had an argument with one of friend. Doctor gave Fluoxetine he took for 10 days after that he is experiencing blunt emotion, anhedonia and no sexual stimulation. Due to anhedonia he is not able to feel sexual pleasure and libido. He is not suffering from erectile dysfunction as after trying and jerking penis got hardness but in 1 go he is not able to stimulate or get arousal due to anhedonia. It's been more than 13 month. Consulted many doctors, doctor were not able to understand the root issue, even some reputed appolo doctors denied that is not possible and  few doctor misdiagnosed and gave medicine like Bupropium xl which cause insomnia and heartbeat very fast and other side effects. He never had any kind of  issue before. Is there any cure for this?

Short term use of Fluoxetine is unlikely to cause such long term effects. Anxiety and depressive symptoms themselves are known to cause anhedonia and loss of libido. Definitely needs detailed evaluation.

Hi.. taking medicine for 10 days will not make a permanent change in the body. Usually the side effects due to medicines reverse once the drugs are stopped ( most of the time).  However i will need further history to advise regarding the same.
Next Steps
consult for further evaluation and management

Hi, it is very much possible that fluoxetine caused  reduced libido. But it will improve within a week of stopping fluoxetine. However, some psychological issues may carry forward this decrease libido, so it looks like a longer side effect. Bupropion Was a good try for it's solution. If bupropion is not well tolerated and it caused insomnia, then some other medicines are also available which may give very good results. You can consult me online on my mobile number seven two nine seven zero nine zero nine nine eight.
