Though full thickness tear should ideally be operated only, at this age it may be a little difficult. There is option of PRP (platelet rich plasma) injection  which easily give 50-60% relief to patients in these conditions. Its a simple 10 minutes injection. Medicines may give a little relief but tear needs to be treated.
