Mother has been experiencing shoulder and upper arm pain for last 5 days. She is unable to move her hand backwards.

Common problem at certain age due to impingement, cuff tear or adhesive capsulitis and certain other conditions. She needs to be evaluated, examined and investigated.

A proper physical evaluation would be necessary to find out the actual cause of her problem.Shoulder pain is just the symptom.The actual cause needs to be identified and treated.Also you haven't mentioned if she is diabetic,since it can be a major cause leading to peri arthritis of shoulder

Hot Fomentation. Gentle Shoulder Stretching. Core Strengthening Exercises. Gentle Neck Exercises. Avoid sleeping on affected side.. Warm up and cool down is a must.

F/66 yrs : diabetic ?? Sudden onset of Pain and stiffness is often a common presentation in orthopaedic OPD.consult an Ortho surgeon, get x ray done, more commonly treated with rest, cuff and collar sling, some anti infammmtory tablets , hot fomentation. Thanks.

She could be having an early frozen shoulder her neck also could be involved please take her to a physiotherapist who can help her
