I have been waking up with a severe neck pain since the last 5 days. It subsides during the day. But the mornings are really painful.
I sleep on my back. Without a pillow. On an average day i wake up, go to office, then go to gym before going to sleep. I generally maintain a straight posture. Could you please tell me what might be causing it?

If the pain is severe you need to be started on medications. please meet with your nearby orthopaedic doctor for a check up so that the cause of pain can be determined and treated accordingly.
Get your vitamin levels checked and get an xray of your neck done
I don't recommend sleeping without a pillow. Use a medium firmness and medium thickness pillow. Use hot packs on your neck to relax your muscles
