Hello parent! Thanks for reaching out to us. A runny nose in isolation is usually a symptom of a viral upper respiratory tract infection which is expected to settle in 3-4 days on its own. Make sure to wash hand frequently, give plenty of warm fluids to your child and can give 2.5 ml of Cetrizine syrup if symptoms are too troublesome. However, do watch out for danger signs like severe wet sounding cough, fast breathing, high fever, poor appetite, lethargy or extreme irritability and do get in touch with a pediatrician at the earliest. Happy to help! Regards!
Hello parent!
For simple runny nose alone you may not use any medication in a younger child. It may be because of allergy or a mild viral illness. Often it’s self resolving. Encourage warm fluids like soups, milk with turmeric and cinnamon. Even warm dals very good
If it’s causing a nasal block you may use nasoclear saline drops or Otrivin saline drops three times a day.
Alternatively, a Syp cetrizine 2.5 ml once a day for 3-5 days is also good for runny nose in case it’s causing some congestive symptoms
