Hello Well when the cavity in the tooth reaches to the nerve of the tooth that is when a root canal treatment is required. It is a normal routine dental procedure which is done under local anesthesia, usually completed in two to three visits. But if you visit a root canal specialist or endodontist it can be done in a single visit also.
