Retainers substitutes
My orthodontist asked me to get my lower braces removed about 10 months ago. I hadn't gotten them tightened since the last time 10 months, and only got them removed a couple of days ago. Does this extra time that I allowed the braces to stay on my teeth reduce the risk of my teeth to get back into their original position? I wear my retainers, but it's not possible for me to wear them for the whole day. So that is what makes me wonder that what is the possibility of my teeth returning to their original position.

Your braces for 10months extra without tightening acted as retainers only, and the retainer period is very important you should consult with your orthodontist regarding how long you have to wear it, and also that you are not able to wear it continuously so can he give you fixed retainers.

Hello In orthodontic treatment ,retention period is very important ,else chances of relapse are high . As you mentioned ,you had braces for 10 months extra ,so without tightening ,I.e. without applying force definitely they act as retainers only . That will reduce your time for retainers You have not mentioned your age , as in adult patient ,retention period is in years and in young age ,may be one year is sufficient If you cannot wear removable retainers , you can opt for fixed retainers Hope I answered your queries Regards Prof. Dr Atul Gupta
