Hi docter
I have been on medications for anxiety and depression. I have been given the medicines bupron xl 500 and escitalopalm 20 mg. It worked well in the beginning but my hands would always shiver after i started this medications. Its been a month I am not taking them regularly.. as I am feeling really demotivated and feeling helpless. But I feel bit dizzy and irritated if I don't have the medicine for a stretch of 5 days. I want to get off the medications but I don't know how. Is there a way i could tapper down the medicines.

First of all these medications such as escitalopram and bupropion are not used on and off, withdrawal symptoms can occur
* Further if on these medications you are feeling some problem as tremors, must consult your doctor*
Do not adjust the dose on your own
You can plan a consultation with the doctor to whom you can trust, maintain follow up visit
Medications will be tapered one by one, further when functioning improvement well, a single medication in minimum effective dose will be continued
Hi F25 from Hyderabad
It was a great start. I understand that you felt a little uneasy while on treatment, did you discuss this with your doctor? It’s not advisable to stop medicines suddenly or self medicate because then the symptoms come back and it leads to frustration. Do not worry about tapering or getting of meds, it happens gradually as your symptoms will subside , okay?
Hi,
I understand your concerns. Both escitalopram and bupropion should not be stopped suddenly, as this can lead to withdrawal symptoms like dizziness, irritability, and low mood. The safest way is to consult your psychiatrist to make a tapering plan - usually reducing the dose gradually over several weeks. For example, escitalopram is often reduced stepwise (20 mg → 15 mg → 10 mg → 5 mg → stop), while bupropion can also be tapered depending on the dose you are on.
Since you mentioned tremors and still feel demotivated, it might also be worth discussing whether a dose adjustment or change of medication would help, rather than stopping everything at once. Alongside medicines, therapy and lifestyle changes can make a big difference. Please don’t attempt to taper on your own - do it under medical supervision to stay safe and prevent relapse."
Next Steps
1. Do not stop antidepressants abruptly - this can cause withdrawal symptoms (dizziness, irritability, “electric shocks,” anxiety rebound).
2. Both escitalopram (SSRI) and bupropion can cause withdrawal effects, more so with escitalopram.

Hi
See Stopping antidepressant or anti-anxiety medication suddenly can cause dizziness, irritability, and withdrawal-like symptoms exactly what you’re noticing. Both Bupron XL (bupropion) and Escitalopram need to be tapered gradually under a psychiatrist’s supervision, never abruptly. The dose and speed of tapering depend on how long you’ve been on them, your body’s response, and your mental health status.
It’s important not to stop on your own, because withdrawal can worsen anxiety, mood swings, and physical symptoms.
If you want to taper it start therapy please it helps you prevent any relapse

Hi.. maybe you need an adjustment of your medicines. You need to take medicines for a few days for symptoms to go away. Consult online for further evaluation and management
Hii..
The medication which you are using should be tapered off slowly under professional surveillance to look after your side effects of withdrawal..
As you are not feeling good even with medication we can cross taper the medication with others or if you don't want medication at all we can start on therapy by slowly tapering the medication..
