Recurring UTI
I'm having UTI infection every 2-3 months with fever chills. Ultrasound/KFT were done all clear. Subsides after antibiotics/ Nitrofurantoin. Also taking all precautions still unable to understand cause of recurrence. Please advice.

Hi Recurrent infections are common in females. However since you are getting fever and chills, it is better to get further investigations done. Please check whether you bladder is emptying completely on ultrasound or not. If there is any residual urine at all in bladder on ultrasound then it is better to get a cystoscopy done and we might have to dilate the urine pipe from bladder to outside under anaesthetic. Please consider taking antibiotics at low dose - nitrofurantoin 100 mg at night for 3 months to reduce the frequency of infections. Applicaton of curd to the area around the water passage daily has also helped few patients as is taking probiotic drinks by mouth. You could also take cranberry capsules 2 capsules three times a day for as long as necessary.
