Please be reassured â there is absolutely no rabies risk from this situation. You got a cut on your heel while bathing in a river, and you are worried that a dog might have licked it. A dog licking an intact wound in water is not a recognised mode of rabies transmission â the virus requires direct inoculation of infected saliva into broken skin through a confirmed bite or deep scratch from a rabid animal. With 10 prior rabies vaccine doses and a booster just the day before, your immunity is at its peak. No action is needed.
Next Steps
No vaccine is needed for this incident. Please keep the cut clean and let it heal. Feel free to consult me directly on Practo if your anxiety around rabies continues â this level of worry may benefit from some reassurance and counselling.
