Protein intake
Hi, I have a son who will be 4 years old in july. I am worried about his protein intake as he doesn't like to eat lentils. I try to make him eat some but he always eats in small quantities. Please can anyone suggest some good protein powder for him?? Also any multivitamin or something that could help with his appetite? Thanks in advance

It’s common for small kids to avoid dal, but don’t worry—there are many other ways to give him protein. Try giving paneer, curd, cheese, eggs (if non-veg), peanut butter, milk, and curd-based smoothies—these are all good sources of protein. You can also mix cooked dal into roti dough, paratha, or cheela to hide the taste. Homemade protein-rich laddoos with nuts, seeds, and roasted chana powder are a tasty option. For protein powders, instead of market ones, go for natural ones like sattu powder, roasted gram powder, or homemade dry fruits mix (finely ground). If you still want to try a supplement, you can go for PediaSure, Pediasmart, or Protinex Junior (age-appropriate)—but always check with your pediatrician first. For appetite, try giving Zincovit syrup or Aptivate drops/syrup—they help improve hunger, but only after doctor’s advice. Let him eat with family, serve small portions, and never force-feed—kids eat better when food time is fun and relaxed. Also, let him play and be active—it naturally builds appetite. Remember, growth takes time—if he's active, sleeping well, and not falling sick often, he's doing okay.

Hi For poor appetite, please talk to his doctor. 4 year olds are trying to establish their independence and rest boundaries. So give your son some protein choices and ask what he would like for snack or meals? Children eat better when they are involved in decision making. There are many great protein sources like lentils, paneer, eggs and animal foods. If you are a vegetarian you can also add foods like Channa chaat, boiled peanuts, yoghurt, cottage cheese, quinoa and certain millets.,
