Persistent knee pain while standing
Hi doctor I have been experiencing moderate knee pain for over three weeks on right knee while cooking. It is not sharp but occurs only on top of knee at a particular point. Leg stretch exercises help for sometime but it reoccurs mostly in the night while cooking. I have an IT job and do not have any standing job during the day. I am worried because my mother has been having such pain for years now. Please advise if there are any particular exercises to avoid any deterioration.

The pain might be because of prolonged sitting when you keep your knees bent for long periods, it creates increased pressure in the patellofemoral joint.
Next Steps
Do not keep your knees bent for long periods at a stretch. Take a 5 minute break every hour to do mild stretching exercises. Do not sqaut or sit cross legged. Do not sit on the floor. Use warm water bags and pain relief spray. Use a knee support. Consult if pain is too severe.
