Persistent knee pain
My knee has been having pain for the past 2 months more frequently than it has had in the last few years. I can't put pressure on it without pain, but even when I'm laying down it hurts. It hurts to bend it up kind of and the pain is on the outer parts of my knee cap. I don't see a difference much with swelling or bruising. My x-ray camback normal.

You are having in all probability something known as excessive lateral patella pressure syndrome. Avoid sitting cross-legged and do proper rehabilitation.
Next Steps
Take a skyline view of your both knees. It will probably show the patella of the painful knee to be tilted compared to the other side.
