Pain in the back & waist
My wife occasionally gets excruciating pain around the waist area. Its so much that she can't lie down or even get up. Then it suddenly goes away for a few days then returns. She has a sitting job with long hours in the computer. Could this be due to posture? If yes then why only this area. Till now she's been taking normal pain killers for this.

Hello there. It's unfortunate that she is in pain. The reasons for this pain could be a lot from simple things like calcium and vitamin D3 deficiency to neurologic pain. Detailed evaluation of the case is necessary with examination and other investigations like X-ray and MRI. This could be due to the posture also. Ask her to take calcium and vitamin D3 supplements and do some stretching excercises and yoga. Take her to a orthopedician for further treatment. Taking pain killers for a long duration can have effects on the kidney. Best regards. Dr. Anil Kumar Jain.
