What is her weight? If she is over weight, go for weight reduction through diet control. No weight lifying, forward bending and sleeping in soft thick mattress beds. Back bending exercises (extension exercises) are helpful. If pain is severe and there are abnormal sensations of numbness then seek qualified opinion from orthopaedic surgeon.
