Dear mam, Osteoporosis is common in women after 60 years of age. Treatment depends on certain medical factors as well as BMD (DEXA) scan report. There are many oral and injectable medicines to treat osteoporosis apart from Calcium and Vitamin D, the choice of medicine depends on severity of osteoporosis as well as the medical condition of the patient. Please have a look at osteoporosis page on my website www.dranujchawla.com for more insights into it. Any calcium, Vit D supplement giving elemental Ca 500mg and 1000 IU Vit D or 0.25mcg Calcitriol needs to be taken apart from a calcium rich diet. Osteoarthritis is a age related disease. Treatment varies from lifestyle modificaton, weight reduction, exercises and medications like pain killers (paracetamol, tramadol etc).
Next Steps
Share BMD report and joint involved
Health Tips
Take calcium rich diet as well as supplements, do physiotherapy
