Optimum BP For a 87 year old Lady
Dear Doc Hi My mother in law is a BP patient and having telma40 for that. She is having BP 200/100 suddenly even if she is having medicine what do we do in that case. Kindly answer my query.

In adults aged 80 years and older, a blood pressure below 150/90 mm Hg is recommended .If her BP is constantly reading> 180/120 it's considered as hypertensive crisis.If she is symptomatic chest pain , dizziness, headache , blurred vision, breathing difficulty , palpitations ,you should take her to the hospital.If she is compliant with telma 40 ,dosage may not be enough.In such instances a second antihypertensive from different class is added .

Please ask your mother-in-law whether she is taking medicine regularly or not? Please record bp twice with a gap of 4 hours inbetween and repeat recording tomorrow and let me know the recorded values If she is taking medication regularly we will plan to change the medication and also we need to perform one simple lab test of serum creatinine and let me know the value tomorrow
